11 Bucket-List Vacations That Won’t Break the Bank

A Travel Article by Olly Pease

As global travel becomes more accessible, international vacations are becoming increasingly affordable — if you know where to look and when to book. Typically, if you’re trying to save money, it’s best to plan your trip during a destination’s off-season. As a bonus, you’ll likely enjoy a more relaxed experience without the usual tourist crowds.

Whether you’re dreaming of traveling as far as Australia or as close as Toronto, you might be pleasantly surprised by the cost. Using data from various travel sources, here’s a list of 11 international destinations where your money will stretch further, along with tips on when to book for the best deals on flights and accommodations.

Toronto, Canada

Just across the U.S. border lies a vibrant city filled with culture, a diverse culinary scene, and activities for all ages and interests. Often mistaken for Canada’s capital, Toronto is known as “Hollywood North” for its celebrity residents. Food lovers can explore Little Italy, Chinatowns, and Little Portugal for a global culinary tour. Tourists may also enjoy catching a hockey game, tasting craft beers, and visiting the famous CN Tower for stunning city views.

Toronto’s low season typically runs from October to March, excluding December due to holiday travel. You can find flights for around $180 from New York in October, with the journey taking less than two hours. Downtown hotels are cheapest in January and February, where three-star options can be found for as low as $33 per night, while September sees prices rise to an average of $371 per night.
